Day 106: Positive Thinking Births Positivity – Part 4

106

I hear people say, God has a funny sense of humor.  I have even uttered the same colloquialism many times during moments of testing.  However, I am not convinced it is God with the funny sense of humor.  The more I consider the colloquialism, the more I contemplate my understanding of God’s plan.  Constructively, I wonder if I am turning his tailored-made lessons into mundane jokes.  Believers are constantly talking about the plan of God in our lives, in tragedies, and in victories.  We speak to his loving nature.  We speak to his blind-eye, in some cases.  We speak to his divine intervention in other cases.  In the earlier statements, the key words are, “we speak”.

We forget sometimes, how our vision of God directly correlates to our understanding of the character of God.  Case in point, in hindsight this particular theme of the week began as a fiction novel.  With each passing day, it feels more like a non-fiction never-ending Twilight saga.  At every turn, I hear the spoken word from others being melted into ore and shaped into swords.  However, the daggers fueled by doubt, fear, and sickness are all pointed inward.  Of course, each dagger is brandishing an equally poisonous, rusted, and gangrene causing metal tip aimed at their very own heart.

I cannot recall a time in my life where I spoke cancerous words over myself, my life, or other people.  However, I cannot condemn those who do.  Yet, I wonder how different their life and this world would be, if the word was benign, instead of terminal.

Blessings,

EYHCS

Day 105: Positive Thinking Births Positivity – Part 3

105 thankyouquotesforgod

Each day I learn something new.  I believe my philosophical approach towards learning allows me to find blessings in the small things.  This realization provides me much solace, now.  This challenge once written here, took on a life of its own.  My thoughts, actions, and behavior all became suspect the more I focused on actually remaining positive with everyone.  It was not an easy feat.  I would catch myself often becoming frustrated with people in general.  Normally, my invisible rocking chair would ease such frustrations.  In search of my rocking chair, my only confidant was more frustration.  Then the small voice would whisper, “Positive thinking births positivity”.   I am pretty sure I waved my invisible stick at the small voice.  However, stopped in my tracks, I bowed to the voice.

Each time, I challenge myself; I gain a deeper understanding of who I really am.  The primary reason, I weigh my words carefully comes from the understanding of their true power.  Actualization happens according to the profession I speak outwardly.  My words have been known to feed defeat.  Conversely, they are a blueprint for victory over the obstacles in my life.  In either case, they speak to a deeper truth about the Law of Attraction/Power of the Tongue.

Today, I felt condemned by my own words.  My silent thoughts failed to lineup with my written words.  Frustrated, slightly disgusted, and publicly exhausted I managed a small level of civility when communicating with others.  I constantly reminded myself of a few simple truths.  First, I am a work in process.  Second, I fall short so God can rise up.  Third, the greatest blessing is awareness of the first two truths.

While today was not the greatest exercise in positive thinking, it was a day of awareness.  Tomorrow will be better.

Blessings,

EYHCS

Day 104: Positive Thinking Births Positivity – Part 2

Joy Coming

My exercise in positive thinking births positivity at best remains a challenging experiment.  Day one, a hard reality surfaced almost immediately.  There are people in this world determined to fail.  At each turn today, an onslaught of defeatist personalities found their way into my atmosphere.  Some complained of their mounting troubles.  There were others who simply refused ever opportunity of deliverance from a broken mindset.  Many times during my conversations I silently spoke peace upon their lives and minds.  I know their disposition far too well.

It is a place of despondency.  It is a place of doubt.  It is a place of weariness.  It is a place of broken dreams.  It is a place of lost moments.  It is a place of refusal to get up and try again.  It is a place of hopelessness.  Yet, it is a place we can survive.

AMP GEN. 40:6-7

6 When Joseph came to them in the morning and looked at them, he saw that they were sad and depressed. 7 So he asked Pharaoh’s officers who were in custody with him in his master’s house, Why do you look so dejected and sad today?

I realize the beginning of this post appears more dire than positive.  However, before we can uproot an issue, we must correctly identify the nutrients feeding the issue.  As a people we hold the very future of our world in our hands.  Regardless, of your belief system, we exist in the utopia or hell we create.  Living in this time provides us with an opportunity for greater innovations and mind-blowing advances in every facet of our lives.  After all, we are a people of great minds, powerful beliefs, and an unwavering sense of righteousness.

My current self is not my past self.  My future self will not be my present self.  Regardless, each part of my evolving experiences leads me into discovering my true self.  Perhaps, there are days the road looks longer and the money seems shorter, but there is always hope. My faith has never failed me once.  Consequently, I am often considered the ultimate optimists.  People comment on my rose-colored glasses at the world we find ourselves in today.  Yet, my hope in tomorrow comes from my experiences of the past.

For me, the first step in overcoming my obstacles began long before there were any obstacles in my path worth conquering.  While some moments in my life have falling lower than others, I stay positive in the face of every challenging experience.  I created a secret place to ward off negativity.    My countenance tells a story my mind does not see.  My heart speaks a truth I make the concerted effort to walk in daily.  Even in total darkness your light will shine if you plug-in the cord.

Jason Nelson, beliefnet.com (http://www.beliefnet.com/Wellness/Galleries/Seven-Steps-to-Make-the-Law-Of-Attraction-Work-Every-Time.aspx?p=5&b=1) outlines the 7 Steps of the Law of Attraction as:

1.)    Awareness:      Be aware of what you are creating.

2.)    Breathe:            Breathe in deeply to connect to what you are creating and on the exhale expand to create more room for the connection.  Surrender to what you are currently creating and let go.

3.)    Responsibility: Take responsibility for what you are creating. Own it. Use the verbiage ‘I want to experience (place here what you are experiencing)’ because on some level you do want to experience it or you wouldn’t be experiencing it.

4.)    Acceptance:     Drop judgment of what you are creating to realize it is simply a creation. Discharge the energy or judgment typically associated with things that you don’t want. These unwanted things have been called negative, wrong or bad.

5.)    Unconscious:   Now that you are aware of what you do want consciously, become aware of any unconscious thoughts creating against what you want consciously. Go through the first four steps with each unconscious thought that is hidden and in conflict with your conscious desires.

6.)    Peace:                Make peace with the inner conflict about the situation. Bring both sides of your thinking together. Harmonize your conscious and unconscious thinking. Let them both speak and feel. Indeed two parts of you can be in disagreement with each other. Come to a place of being okay with each of them and feel the resulting peace.

7.)    Recreate:          With awareness, acceptance and peace brought to all parts of you regarding a situation, you have the power to recreate the circumstance and with a higher probability of long-lasting success.

I have traveled along many roads through dark valleys, gravel roads, wooded forests, and shadowy fields of broken branches and molded stumps, in search of my true north.  I know my vision may shift and change, but my destination remains in eye’s view.  I speak positive, because I believe affirming the positivity in my life provides the necessary fuel to light the fire in my favor.  I live positioned to hear, see, learn, and arrive intact at my place of deliverance.  In this moment, I am speaking both figuratively and literally.  Later this week, I will share more on the power deposited into the law of attraction.

Day 103 – Positive Thinking Births Positivity

Change the mind

Does your mind need an interior decorator?

Today is the start of a new week with many new opportunities to shine, to improve, or to simply survive another week.  As this week begins, the book, The Secrets, brings forth the focal point of this week’s theme.  The Secrets discusses the law of attraction, in detail.  A governing principle for many religious sects, the law of attraction provides the believer with another important principle, the power of the tongue.  However, others have adopted the principle without adopting a particular religious doctrine.  In short, the law of attraction purports we attract what we believe and speak.  The more we reinforce a positive outlook, the more we attract positive outcomes in all facets of our lives.

Consequently, I hear many people in my personal and professional life constantly complaining about their current disposition.  Sometimes, I silently wonder if they realize their true potential to change their trajectory in life.  Other times, I challenge overtly their defeatist outlook.  Regardless, I purposefully remain the neutral party.  I am the listening ear or the sound voice among the daily commotions happening around me.  Yet, as draining as this may seem, I know without a doubt God keeps me grounded and provides a place of constant renewal.

Perhaps, many of you find yourselves with your own level of defeatist thinking at life’s daily burdens.  For me, I can only change my circumstance when I change my way of thinking.  Therefore, the focal point of this week’s theme is Positive Thinking Births Positivity.  I would like my followers and email readers participation in this little experiment.

The Challenge

Years ago, I had a professor challenge the class to only speak positive affirmations throughout the week.  We were to journal our experiences daily.  Afterwards, we discussed our findings during the next class. Many of us noticed a significant change in the way we handled ourselves, obstacles, and people.  Some of us even noted a mirroring effect in others.

How to Participate

To take part in the challenge, please include a link to this blog on your posts.  Alternatively, you can reply directly to this post.  Blessings, EYHCS

Google+ April Fool on Me

My throat held a large lump throughout most of the day.

Did I wake up on the wrong side of the bed? No.

Did my car fail to start this morning? No.

Did I realize I left my wallet on the countertop just as I reached to pay for my morning coffee? No.

Did I set my alarm clock two hours ahead of schedule and over sleep?  Well, maybe just a little.

Did I walk into a world of chaos at work? Possibly, just a little.

Did I wander into the universe of paradoxical circumstances?  The jury is still out on this one.

Regardless, of all the above, I cringed at the awareness creeping along my spine into my mind’s eye, today is April Fools’ Day.  A day designed for even the most reclusive person to catch some unsuspected person off guard with their mischievous intentions.  I treaded lightly throughout the day.  I believe, I even exhaled two hours before quitting time.  I silently prayed thank you, thank you, and thank you.  Then a co-worker sat beside me and mentioned Google+ April Fools’ Day prank.

All throughout the morning and much of the day, I have battled with a particular picture for the weekly photo submission. Finally, around lunchtime I succeed.  Again, I offered a thank you, thank you, and thank you.  Except, this time I might have frightened a few of my co-workers.  On second thought, I am sure my little happy dance shocked them all by their expressions on their faces.  Oh well, I surmised.  The room was heavy today!

Nevertheless, curiosity and an inquisitive mind continually pulled me to visit my Google+ page.  All I can say is thanks’ Google for making this day just a bit sweeter.

Here is my present from Google+.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Street Life

Weekly Photo Challenge: Street Life

http://dailypost.wordpress.com/2014/03/28/street-life/

During the summer of 2011, I traveled to Beijing, China as an ESL teacher for the SMIC Private School.  My camera died the first day of the trip somewhere in Narita, Japan.  Luckily, a fellow teacher graciously allowed me the use of her grandmother’s camera. These are just a few of the 14,000 plus pictures accumulated and permanently housed in my digital photo journal.

BC 1

The street life of Beijing through all the grime, grit, and smog brought about many opportunities to see the cultures’ greatest kept secrets of poverty-stricken citizens surviving on less than $3.00 USD a day.  This particular pictures occurs somewhere in the third ring.  The closer we moved into the inner rings the more the communist system revealed an age-old system of classism.  The poor regulated to the outskirts of the world rarely ventured into the inner rings.  Thus, their current predicament seemed normal.  Only my fellow westerners recognized the disparity between the rings.  Yet, many managed to refrain from imposing their western superiority complex over our new friends. However, there were a few comments about our unusually large suitcases.  Considering our multiple suitcases outnumbered us, it all makes sense.  I felt a little embarrassed the more the kind porters struggled to secure enough space for us to board the bus after loading our luggage. I digress.

BC 2As westerners, we longed for the remnants of home and would often venture into the second and third rings after class.   A quick dash to our “hotel” situated next to our school for a shower, retrieval of our universal transportation pass, and off we went.  The hotel was actually a compound housed between twenty-foot steel gates protected by some extremely friendly police officers.  Friendly is loosely used here to denote the prison undertones of our environment.

On the bright side, our assigned teacher assistant (TAs)/babysitters were always in tow.  Actually, our teacher assistants were our guides in an unfamiliar land.  Their few moments of rest occurred during our few hours of sleep.  Otherwise, they met us at sunrise and stayed by our sides until the wee hours of the morning.  Even now, I appreciate the care shown by my TA.

The next picture features a community government-owned housing development deep within the third ring.

BC 3

Now, the next picture holds a special place in my heart.  I was extremely excited about visiting a Chinese Opera.  The anticipation soared throughout me the entire day.  I remember bubbling inside as I ready for the evening.

BC 4

Decked out in my long flowing white skirt, perfectly pressed white buttoned-down shirt, affixed with a wide-loose-fitting white belt, and white sandals; I imagined an evening of indoctrination into this fine art of Chinese Opera.  However, we arrived at an off-Broadway rendition of a Chinese Opera house.  My shock hidden under a curt smile belied none of the disappointment within my heart.  Although the reality failed to measure up entirely I managed to enjoy the experience wholeheartedly.

BC 4aOur trip planners prepared an enlightening itinerary filled with the best of Beijing.

The following reveals a marker in an area surrounding the Forbidden City.

BC 5

One of the best days occurred on July 24, 2011.  En route to the Great Wall, we stalled in traffic for over an hour.  It felt like traveling the FDR in New York during rush hour traffic.  Except, few new yorkers would dare vacate their bus and start sings or playing childhood games.  I wish I could post a picture of our red rover games, but privacy constraints hinder such a display.  Eventually, we would arrive intact at the enormous Great Wall of China.

BC 6

BC 7

BC 8I intended to trek up the entire section of the magnificent wall.  I really did.  However, it was rainy, smoggy, and downright dreary.  I managed to climb about two-thirds of the way up the increasingly steep two-inch steps before succumbing to fear.  Eventually, after a brief photo-opt, reason ruled the day, and I began my decline down the treacherous wonder of the world.  I might have mumbled something about the timeliness of this little excursion drench from head-to-toe, but my inner joy offset outward discomfort.

Now, the perfect trip is not complete without a little shopping after a medical emergency.  I will spare you the pictures of me in the doctor’s chair.  However, I will close with a few pictures from my last couple days taken from within the second ring.  The first depicts a fountain in front of the dentist who repaired my front tooth after my dance with a marble staircase.  The second depicts my grand finale in front of the second ring mall.

BC 13

BC 14

Final Thoughts:

My memories of my time in Beijing are as fresh as the sunset here in Texas.  Occasionally, I connect with those I befriended during my stint overseas and inland.  The myriad of transatlantic communication available in the new world of social media has created a bridge linking two not so separate worlds.

I recall our last gathering in our hotel room the night before or departure.  Huddled around my 17-inch screen laptop, we watched my favorite movie of all time, the Lion King.  Moments before our departure away a group of us stood still outside our home away from home.  Our hearts conflicted.  We began as natural inhabitants and foreigners.  Yet, we were leaving behind a family we never expected to find.  Wiping tears from our faces, we hugged each other, share last words of encouragement on our studies, and parted ways.  Friendships are a unique vehicle to breathe into someone else’s life and future.  My students, teacher assistant, and newfound spiritual family offered me solace during my time in a foreign land.

Day 87 – A Christian Nation

Christian Nation

One of my favorite songs, Are You Listening, gives an account of the Haiti earthquake of 2010.  The song appears disjointed at times.  It begins with a show of care for those affected by the earthquake.  However, throughout most of the song it discusses a voyeurism experience to all the suffering.  Clearly, the Haitians are suffering death, homelessness, and devastation. Yet, the songwriter continues in his removed approach to encouraging the victims from afar.  Yes, I see you.  Yes, I feel your pain.  But, this is a cross you must bear alone.  During my own personal struggle, I would silently cry out, really? How Christian of you?  I sit here distraught, cold, homeless, and lost.  Yet, many Christians during this time offered me beautiful scriptural references to warm my soul.  Really? Jesus healed and feed the afflicted.

However, the songwriter does say, while I cannot help you, “he can…and he will”.   The songwriter goes on to say, “I can’t imagine how you feel, but he can and he cares”.  My thoughts, I simply cannot imagine having to defend today’s version of Christianity to my Lord and Savior.  I simply cannot imagine an acceptable affirmative defense.

It is at this point in one of Jesus’ teachings to the disciples Jesus provides some advice. This particular teaching occurs in Matthew chapter 7.  He is providing a list of warnings to the disciples as he readies for his betrayal at the hand of Judas.  In Matthew 7:16, he provides a way for the disciples to affirm his people in general.  He declares, “you will know them by their fruit”.   In short, a person lacking faith cannot produce faith.  Following this logic a Christian lacking compassion for the poor, needy, helpless, orphan, and widow cannot produce a life fully rooted in Christ.  Yet, the beautiful thing about Christ is his willingness to accept us regardless of how we present ourselves.  However, the challenge for non-believers is the ability to reconcile the Christ of the ethos to the Christ of relativity, especially, with us as the visual example.

In spite of my long diatribe here, I am not proclaiming myself the police of the Christian Nation.  I am expressing my personal thoughts on a subject so prevalent in the social construct of our society today.  I am continually striving to become more Christ-like each day.  There are days I exceed my wildest expectations.  There are days I fall short on every level.  Neither endow or exclude me into or from right-standing.  Christ is my only access to salvation.  This is The Truth found and rooted in scripture.  This is The Truth I focus on when the Christian Nation no longer resembles the life of Christ.  This is The Truth written within and upon my heart, my lips, and my mind.
