Day 208: It’s Been Awhile – Lessons Learned

I haven’t posted here in a while. Here are a few things my higher power has allowed me to experience holistically since then:

  • There is life after tragedy strikes.
  • It really does get better.
  • Your perspective dictates your prospectus on life.
  • There is power in silence.
  • You can’t quantify loyalty and you shouldn’t try to.
  • The more you live, the more things change.
  • Principles are fixed, but friendships are not.
  • There is strength in commonality.
  • Truth is in the eye of the beholder.
  • Simple is better.
  • There is a lesson in every experience.
  • Sometimes there’s a full course.
  • People will surprise you.
  • And, you will surprise people.
  • Survival is a state of being.
  • Living is a state of mind.
  • Integrity is more important than loyalty.
  • Love the people who love you.
  • Take note of the people who don’t.
  • Distance isn’t always bad, and closeness isn’t always good.
  • Kindred spirits are real.
  • I think I’ve identified mine.
  • Saying I’m sorry, is more about you than the other person.
  • An apology means nothing if the action doesn’t change.
  • There are no bad experiences.
  • There are only inadequate responses to those “bad experiences”.
  • Pay attention to how people treat you.
  • No response is an answer.
  • Stop explaining.
  • They don’t care.
  • Wishing is good.
  • Striving is better.
  • Action is greater.
  • Success requires a combination of dedication, the right connections, and lots of luck.
  • You can forgive and still remember.
  • Premonitions are real.
  • Losing a job really isn’t a loss when it forces you to find a career.
  • Apologize for how you said it, but not for what you meant, when you said it.
  • Hugs have healing power.
  • Death can knock, but you don’t have to answer.
  • Listen to your heart.
  • Speak from your mind.
  • Love through your soul.
  • Laugh.
  • Cry.
  • Laugh some more.
  • Strength is about more than muscle.
  • The best is yet to come.

Day 193: Reclaim Your Power

I posted recently to my Facebook Community page regarding forcing yourself to let go of the memories and situations still causing you pain long after the event has ended. Many people engaged with the post. Which brings me here.

The human condition is self-persevering. We are all flawed in one way or another. Some of us have done the work and know our greatest flaws. For us, we work to minimize the adverse impact of these human internal defects on others.

There are those of us oblivious to our character defects. We are the most dangerous because we inflict pain on others completely unaware of the negative impact we leave on their lives and our own lives further perpetuating the cycle of pain.

Then there are those within our population who know our impact but inflict pain regardless as a way to reclaim what they believe has been taken from them. These are our narcissistic sociopaths. Beware of them, the blame is almost always external.

However, regardless of the type of person we encounter, the path forward is the same. Cut the anchor cord. No one and I repeat, there is no one capable of hindering your purpose, your happiness, your joy, or your peace unless you allow it. Sometimes our brains attempt to make a connection to a new situation because it resembles a past experience. Listen to it and do not assume it’s about the past situation.

For some, I recognize when I speak or write it comes off as aloof. However, that’s because you’re looking at the cake and not the ingredients and prep time it took to make the cake.

Getting to a place where nothing phases you requires purposeful, dedicated, and long-suffering actions to reach the place I often write from. This is not an overnight enlightenment. You can’t put it in a microwave and expect all to be well in two minutes and fifteen seconds. You have to do the work. And, you have to be honest. I mean completely honest. Honest about your part. Honest about their part. Honest about your true feelings about it all. Then and only then can you start to remove the bricks from your heart, your mind, and your soul.

I pray for peace on the reader of this post. You are strong. You are powerful. You control your thoughts or your thoughts will control you.

Be blessed and do the work.

Humbly submitted,

EYHCS

Day 145: Completion

Sometimes it’s not as much about the reason as it is about the season.

I love cooking metaphors.

When the cake rises, take the cake out of the oven.

The oven has served its purpose and if you leave the cake in too long, it will burn.

Now that the cake is out, let it cool, and turn the oven off.

We often spend so much time and energy analyzing the reason a season has ended, instead of enjoying the fruits of the decision bringing it to completion.

🥂 🍰 🍽

The cake is done.

Cut the cake.

Eat the cake.

Share the cake.

Or save pieces of the cake for later, but the key is – the cake is done regardless of the steps taken to make it rise.

The reason may satisfy some embedded curiosity, but it will not un-bake the cake.

Day 140: Observed Revelations

I observe.

When it becomes too much, I release what I have observed.

I release what I have noticed.

I release what I have felt.

I release what I have heard.

I release what does not belong to me.

It is the only way I can truly remain free.

Thus, I must let it be.

For the branches of this tree are not for me.

I recognize, I was the witness and not the participant.

Day 59: Embedded Favor

This is why I love the story of Jesus. An unknown child from a perceived unknown town. Grows up with an unknown identity. And is revealed to be the known savior.

Poked and prodded he hung on a cross. The unknown savior was not shocked at their behavior. Yet, his resolve never wavered.

For he knew he had embedded favor.

Day 34: The Battle

It is the ultimate internal battle.
To speak or not to speak.
To react or not to react.
To attack or not to attack.
To respond or not to respond.

It’s the battle spiritually and mentally successful people win most days.

The battle of inner determination.
The battle of prescriptive blinders.

Performers understand the battle well.

Regardless of the crowd’s response,
the show must go on.

In spite, of the sideline antics, you still have a purpose to accomplish.

Dogs will bark.
But a bark isn’t a bite.
So why disrupt your flight?
Trust and know everything will be alright.

If the barking dog isn’t your dog, keep on moving and let the owner answer the call.

Day 365: I Dare You

There is no dream, goal, idea, person, relationship, job, or career worth losing your identity over.

Lost is painful. It seeps into the crevices of your heart. It waffles over tender memories. But pain lessens over time and in some cases over distance. Give the emotion an opportunity to dissipate and yourself the opportunity to heal.

People would miss you even if you feel they wouldn’t. Besides, the biggest loser is the one convinced they have nothing left to lose… You!

Prove your greatest critic wrong. One more time.

I double dog dare you!

Signed the Voice You Should Be Listening To,

Antithetically You

Day 313: Camouflage Chest

Truth
Living in a world scripted by imposters. Walking in a land inhabited by puppets. Speaking of a people no longer listening. Born from dirt and grit. Welded together with stone and iron. Reviving a vision no longer present. Rising above the waffling tides, you finally found the treasure hidden inside.

Day 72: Secular Vision

When people call you lucky, but they don’t know or can’t even understand your story….

I’m blessed and I always know who blesses me.

The tears have been replaced with smiles and laughter, but the vision you see today remembers every cloud along the way.

So if your definition of blessed equals my definition of protected and sealed, then yes, call me lucky.

If that’s truly what you see.

Day 68: The Love Clue

FB_IMG_1481684531874

I love me some me.

I am not being vain.

I am acknowledging a truth, I di-d not know.

A truth I could not see.

But a truth nonetheless.

I simply loooo’-ve me some me.

When I discovered who I could be.

I act-u-ally fell more in love with me.

A vessel, you say?

A jar you proclaim!

A promise you whisper.

A proclamation you delivered.

To give of this, the val-u-e o of the exchange must be equ-i-tably measured.

Because I ab-so-lute-ly pos-itive-ly love me some me.

And it is my hope, you love you, some you.

Otherwise, you have missed the clue.

And, I bid you adieu.

Day 228: Leaders

FB_IMG_1469465353159

The thing about being a leader is they always cross over the finish line. The crowd just watches them cross. Leaders are focused on attaining the goal. The crowd is focused on watching every move of the finisher.

Leaders don’t worry about the onlookers. They have mapped out the path to the finish line. The onlookers may see what a leader does, but not understand why the leader does it!

And, seeing without understanding makes it an emulation and not an experience.

Day 185: The Offering

I did not learn, because I took the offered advice.
Sure, I listened.
I might have even been seen taking a few notes.
Yet, the learning came from living and not just listening.

Day 182: The Living Shrine

If you are constantly living off past accomplishments, you are not living, at all.

In fact, you have created a living shrine and shrines are for the dead.

At some point the battle has to be over.

Even Jesus said, “It is finished!”

Day 1: An Interview with 2016 with a Cameo from 2010

DSC05074_2

2016: Looking back over your life, what are you looking forward to in the New Year?

EYHCS: That is an excellent question. <Ponders the question with a reflective countenance>

2016: Do you have an excellent answer?

EYHCS: Yes. <Replies with a dead and stark countenance>

2016: <fully engaged with hips seated at the front of the lounge chair> Care to share?

EYHCS: <continuing to be display a coy demeanor> Sure.

EYHCS: Change, affirmation, and fulfillment of promises are what I am looking forward to in the New Year.

2016: Wow, you don’t shy away from the complex, do you? <Centers left hand across chests in a faux humble fashion>

EYHCS: Never have and never will.

2016: How would you characterize 2015?

EYHCS: At times it was akin to Jack Nicholson from A Few Good Men with “You can’t handle the truth”. At other times it was akin to Rafiki from the Lion King with “Simba, he’s alive!” And, as the year drew to an close, it was Neo from the Matrix with, “I am going to hang up this phone and show the people what you don’t want them to see. The rest I leave up to you!”

2016: Any special resolutions for the New Year?

EYHCS: Not really. I am just grateful to be of sound mind and body after the last several years of testing and trying I have undergone.

2016: What type of testing and trying? How do you define testing and trying?

EYHCS: The simplest definition is the easiest definition. I have been tested mentally, spiritually, emotionally, physically, psychologically, and physiologically.

2010: I was there.

2016: How so?

2010: I saw it all unfold. Yet, I could not intervene. It was a battle required to define, affirm, and confirm her true character. I knew she could and would prevail. I just needed her to know the same.

EYHCS: It was hard at times. A lot of people look at me today and comment how together I seem. They don’t know how much it cost to not only appear this way, but to be this way.

2016: Cost?

EYHCS: Yes, the spiritual and mental cost. The breaking of beliefs to conquer one’s greatest fear is an enlightening and painful process. I mimicked the way Jesus’ survived and prevailed during his 40 days and nights of testing. Everything he needed to defeat external and internal enemies had already been deposited into him. So with private tears and public cheers, I marched on, until I could march out.

2016: Do you feel you’ve conquered your greatest fear?

EYHCS: Most days, I do.

2016: Willing to share it with others.

EYHCS: I feared disappointment.

2016: Disappointment?

EYHCS: Yes, disappointment. Disappointing others, disappointing myself, disappointing my ancestors <unrealistic>, disappointing my parents, and if I am honest, the disappointment of never being enough.

2016: What changed?

EYHCS: I watched my former self battle to regain control of the uncontrollable and win.

2016: How did that feel?

EYHCS: Good, no great! When the enemy saw me cower, the spirit saw me tower.

I watched mesmerized at times as obstacles became pathways. I silently praised in place as promises, visions, and dreams manifested around me and for me. I bit my tongue when necessary and raised my voice when required. I feel in love with me and I liked it! I hadn’t ever been in love with me before 2015, not really, but today I am and it’s great!

2016: Sounds like you figured some things out.

EYHCS: Some, but I have only scratched the surface.

2016: Any regrets?

EYHCS: No, this year was all about clearing up old regrets and living a life that produced no future regrets.

2016: How’s that?

EYHCS: I had to sacrifice my personal self to honor my spiritual-self several times in 2015. At times, I had to confront those who only sought the best for me, but couldn’t understand the choices I was making in how I dealt with certain situations.

2016: That sounds deep.

EYHCS: It is, but the deeper it got, the clearer it all became.

2016: Has anyone ever told you, sometimes your responses produced more questions than answers?

EYHCS: Yes.

2016: Care to add any more to that response?

EYHCS: No.

2016: Well, we’re day one in of 366 days. Care to share your plan for 2016?

EYHCS: Tried that once, the human mind could not comprehend the design.

EYHCS: So instead, in the words of one of my favorite characters, “where we’re going we don’t need any roads”!

2016: I can’t wait!

EYHCS: You don’t have to. You already know what is in store. I am the one who gets to discover it. Thank you for joining me in the journey.

2016: You’re welcome and thanks for sharing, EYHCS, it was a pleasure talking with you. Take care and see you on the other side.

EYHCS: Indeed, I pray you will {Insha’Allah}! One God, many names, and I love them all!!!
