Revealing: Get Ready

Physically & Metaphysically

What happens when you pray this prayer?

Remove anything unlike you, not meant for me, veiled with ill-intent, overly self-serving, no longer serving a purpose, hindering your promises for me and others, draining my energy, sharing my gifts without an equitable exchange, stealing my joy and peace, and/or obstructing my vision holistically.

Friends become distant acquaintances.
Disruptors become visible.
The silence finds a voice.
The unknown becomes known.
The path becomes clearer.

This is not the end.
This is not the beginning.
This is a continuation.

What comes next is sure to amaze.

Get Ready!

A Personal Reflection: SCOTUS 6/24 Decision

I accurately predicted that June would be a bustling month during a local connect meeting, and it has certainly lived up to that expectation. The month has been filled with various events, including festivities for Pride, honoring Juneteenth, and an enlightening conversation with the Grandmother of Juneteenth on June 14th. The list of activities has continued to grow, showcasing our community’s endless opportunities for connection and celebration.

While working on this month’s content, I need to clarify something. Although I discussed completed initiatives from a professional standpoint, the opinions and statements expressed are solely my own. It’s important to note that I have multiple roles, and in this instance, I am writing from my personal perspective, taking into account my intersecting identities.

I paused because I had intended to write a different post, but circumstances compelled me to write this one for this moment. You see, I love to write. Writing is very therapeutic and revealing. Through writing, I often lift the veil on lingering thoughts I have pushed to the side for one reason or another. This brings me to one of those lingering thoughts.

As I ascended below The Statue of Liberty on Liberty Island, my first of several stops on my scheduled excursion in New York City this past Friday, the news from SCOTUS broke. 196 steps to the top of the Pedestal, my travel champion spoke somberly, “It’s Official. The Supreme Court has overturned Roe v. Wade.” My heart sank as a Native Texan, as an American, as a woman, and as a human who cares for others. Not because I support abortions. I don’t know for many personal reasons, including my religious beliefs, but those are mine alone. My views should never usurp the opinions of others on matters affecting their health and/or life. On Friday, June 24th, SCOTUS knowingly did just that in more than a 3rd of the country due to the “trigger laws” in effect.

As I reached the marker for 67 steps to go, I lamented at the sheer irony of our current climate in America with shrinking liberties in the Land of the Free and Home of the Brave. Standing beneath Lady Liberty, I was not surprised, but still, I felt just a little gutted. Lady Liberty was a gift and a promise. A promise codified in our Constitution at a time when my intersectionality would have deemed me “not a person” and “without rights”. A promise through our preparation to host Dr. Opal Lee was solidified by why Juneteenth is so important in the history of America. On a personal level, I had struggled with the holiday until Dr. Lee spoke on the effects the movement created for the enslaved people in Texas. A reminder of the past, but more importantly, a hope for the future and “a celebration of liberation with the freedom to live, to marry, to have and keep our children from being sold, to travel, and so much more”, Dr. Opal Lee. A promise Justice Thomas threatens with his concurring opinion. The match has been lit, it is my hope we the Republic put out the fire in November before we find The Handmaid’s Tale a reality. Because, “I have to tell you, NONE of us are FREE until all of us are FREE”, Dr. Opal Lee.

After climbing 26 steps to the top, I felt a sense of pride. With the guidance of my ancestors, I was able to reach the peak. It was even more fulfilling that my companion and I were the only ones in the stairwell, having chosen to skip the elevator. This accomplishment was especially significant because, just a year ago, I was too sick to even attempt it, and I’m not sure I could have made it to the elevator back then.

Many believe we cannot surmount the conflicting climate seeping into our global affairs.

I disagree. I am proof positive. That is a lie!

As a united society, we have demonstrated our resilience in combatting oppressive regimes and emerging victorious. I am pleased to announce that my employer has taken a significant step in promoting women’s health by expanding our health benefits to include travel expenses for individuals living in states where women are deprived of their right to make informed decisions regarding their bodies. While we recognize that no company is flawless, we are committed to enhancing individuals’ lives and creating a better world for all. These initiatives demonstrate our efforts in moving forward toward a more promising future. Let’s persist in working together and supporting one another.

Day 208: It’s Been Awhile – Lessons Learned

I haven’t posted here in a while. Here are a few things my higher power has allowed me to experience holistically since then:

  • There is life after tragedy strikes.
  • It really does get better.
  • Your perspective dictates your prospectus on life.
  • There is power in silence.
  • You can’t quantify loyalty and you shouldn’t try to.
  • The more you live, the more things change.
  • Principles are fixed, but friendships are not.
  • There is strength in commonality.
  • Truth is in the eye of the beholder.
  • Simple is better.
  • There is a lesson in every experience.
  • Sometimes there’s a full course.
  • People will surprise you.
  • And, you will surprise people.
  • Survival is a state of being.
  • Living is a state of mind.
  • Integrity is more important than loyalty.
  • Love the people who love you.
  • Take note of the people who don’t.
  • Distance isn’t always bad, and closeness isn’t always good.
  • Kindred spirits are real.
  • I think I’ve identified mine.
  • Saying I’m sorry, is more about you than the other person.
  • An apology means nothing if the action doesn’t change.
  • There are no bad experiences.
  • There are only inadequate responses to those “bad experiences”.
  • Pay attention to how people treat you.
  • No response is an answer.
  • Stop explaining.
  • They don’t care.
  • Wishing is good.
  • Striving is better.
  • Action is greater.
  • Success requires a combination of dedication, the right connections, and lots of luck.
  • You can forgive and still remember.
  • Premonitions are real.
  • Losing a job really isn’t a loss when it forces you to find a career.
  • Apologize for how you said it, but not for what you meant, when you said it.
  • Hugs have healing power.
  • Death can knock, but you don’t have to answer.
  • Listen to your heart.
  • Speak from your mind.
  • Love through your soul.
  • Laugh.
  • Cry.
  • Laugh some more.
  • Strength is about more than muscle.
  • The best is yet to come.

Day 259: Ghosted

Day 164 : Detached

I had to become attached so I could detached.

I had to let go of what held me back, before I could receive what called me forward.

I let those misconceived ideas fall by the wayside.

I let those preconceived opinions sail into the abyss.

I let it go.

I let it be.

For I knew I was born free.

For I knew I would be again.

I simply let it go.

And, I simply let it be.

Detached.

Day 160: A Single Lightbulb

Be purposeful about what you feed your spirit. A single lightbulb can light an entire room. A cluster of positive thoughts can light your entire soul. Break either and both seep into darkness.

Day 152: The Hand of Spirituality

Understanding the metaphysical barriers of your life will open new doors and create new pathways.

Religion has earned a bad reputation, because of its misapplication. So we adopt spirituality, because of the hand instead of the hammer.

In seeking my truth, I would much whether be offered a hand than a hammer.

However, if I have a handful of nails instead of a handful of questions, please hand me the hammer.

Day 150: Romance Me

Who is she?
What does she like?
Who does she like?
What does she want?
When does she want it?
Where did she pivot?
Why did she evolve?
How would you know?

When was the last time you spent any time learning the answers?

Your relationship with self is a mirrored image of your relationship with God the universe.

If you rely on others to cultivate your worth, what happens when their view changes?

Day 145: Completion

Sometimes it’s not as much about the reason as it is about the season.

I love cooking metaphors.

When the cake rises, take the cake out of the oven.

The oven has served its purpose and if you leave the cake in too long, it will burn.

Now that the cake is out, let it cool, and turn the oven off.

We often spend so much time and energy analyzing the reason a season has ended, instead of enjoying the fruits of the decision bringing it to completion.

🥂 🍰 🍽

The cake is done.

Cut the cake.

Eat the cake.

Share the cake.

Or save pieces of the cake for later, but the key is – the cake is done regardless of the steps taken to make it rise.

The reason may satisfy some embedded curiosity, but it will not un-bake the cake.

Day 140: Observed Revelations

I observe.

When it becomes too much, I release what I have observed.

I release what I have noticed.

I release what I have felt.

I release what I have heard.

I release what does not belong to me.

It is the only way I can truly remain free.

Thus, I must let it be.

For the branches of this tree are not for me.

I recognize, I was the witness and not the participant.

Day 59: Embedded Favor

This is why I love the story of Jesus. An unknown child from a perceived unknown town. Grows up with an unknown identity. And is revealed to be the known savior.

Poked and prodded he hung on a cross. The unknown savior was not shocked at their behavior. Yet, his resolve never wavered.

For he knew he had embedded favor.

Day 34: The Battle

It is the ultimate internal battle.
To speak or not to speak.
To react or not to react.
To attack or not to attack.
To respond or not to respond.

It’s the battle spiritually and mentally successful people win most days.

The battle of inner determination.
The battle of prescriptive blinders.

Performers understand the battle well.

Regardless of the crowd’s response,
the show must go on.

In spite, of the sideline antics, you still have a purpose to accomplish.

Dogs will bark.
But a bark isn’t a bite.
So why disrupt your flight?
Trust and know everything will be alright.

If the barking dog isn’t your dog, keep on moving and let the owner answer the call.

Listen to it all. Shift the wheat. Then retreat. Prepare yourself for the big meet and greet. Now you’re playing for keeps. Choreography your beats. Take your time to unwind. You have a reserved seat.

Day 16: Chartered Ship

You know the conclusion. The odds are in your favor. Why fear your path across the ocean?

No matter what happens. No matter who leaves. No matter who stays. No matter what falls. No matter who rises. The victory is already yours.

Uncharted waters still follow a current. Use your lessons and fellow shipmates to ride the waves to paradise.
